General Info for New Registrants — Ed-Vance Program
Quads:
The school year at CALC Ed-Vance is divided into 4 quads (Quadmesters). A quad is like a semester in a regular high school, only it is approximately 10 weeks long. Students are required to take 3 courses each quad.
Age Qualification:
The Ed-Vance program is for students 18-20 years of age. If you are turning 21 before January 1. 2010, you will be directed to CALC’s Adult program. If you do not qualify under this definition then your "home" school or an optional attendance school or a Continuing Education program should accept you. If you do not meet the age criteria and cannot find a suitable alternative, contact the TDSB Placement Centre at 416.393.9300.
Registration Procedure:
To register as a new student an appointment must be made at Ed-Vance the week before the actual registration week by phone (416.393.9740, extension 20048 or 20049) or in the Ed-Vance Guidance Office in C Square at 1 Danforth Avenue. Your actual registration will occur the following week on the day specified on your appointment sheet or signified by a secretary. Registration is a 4-5 hour process during which you may be required to take an assessment to determine what grade level is appropriate for your courses. Counsellors are available throughout the process to help you register and pick courses.
Required Documentation:
When you receive your appointment date, there will be a list of item to bring. We will need to see the original documents plus a photocopy of each that will be retained in your school file. There are no photocopiers available at registration; therefore, make sure you bring the photocopies. We will be looking for proof of citizenship, or residence status in Canada, your Ontario Health Card, valid picture ID, and a transcript or credit counseling summary. The appointment sheet will provide more specific information.
Students are required to have a minimum of 5 credits. Students need to be residents of the GTA. Ed-Vance students can only be enrolled with Ed-Vance because it is a full-time and accelerated program. The Ed-Vance program is oriented towards students who have fallen behind completing their OSSD. The Ed-Vance program has no accommodations for those already with their OSSD, ESL, or special education.
