General Info for New Registrations — Regular Adult Day Program

     New Student:

If you have never attended CALC, or have attended but been away for more than two years the information below applies to you as a new registrant.

     Quads:

The school year at CALC is divided into four quads. A quad is like a semester in a regular high school, however, it is only 9 weeks long. Students may only take two courses in their first quad. Depending on your performance, you may be able to enroll in three courses in subsequent quads. Your counsellors are available to provide advice regarding course selection.

     Age Criteria:

For the 2010/2011 school year, those born in 1989 (or earlier) are eligible to enter the CALC adult day school program. For those born in 1990, please speak with a counsellor to see if you meet special considerations for Quadmester 3 and 4 only. If you do not qualify as an adult student under this definition, and you do not fit the criteria for Ed-Vance (students between 18 and 20 years old, few credits, interrupted education), you are advised to seek assistance at your "home" school. If you cannot find a suitable alternative, please contact the TDSB Placement Centre at (416) 393-9300.

     Registration Procedure:

To register as a new student, an appointment sheet must be picked up at CALC the week before the actual registration week. Please check our website www.calconline.net, or the school's voicemail for information regarding the location and availability of the appointment sheets. Information is also posted at various locations throughout our building. Your actual registration will occur on the day specified on your appointment sheet. Registration is a 4-5 hour process during which you will be required to take an assessment to determine what grade level is appropriate for your courses. This is mandatory for all students who have been out of an Ontario public high school for over 2 years, and might be necessary in some other cases as well. Some sample assessments are available on our website. Counsellors are available throughout the process to help you with the course selection process. Please do not bring children when you come to register since we do not have suitable facilities and supervision for them.

     Required Documentation:

The appointment sheet indicates a list of documents that you are requited to bring to registration. We will need to see the original documents PLUS a photocopy of each item that will be retained in your school file. There are no photocopiers available at registration, therefore, please make sure you bring the photocopies. We will be looking for proof of citizenship, or residence status in Canada, your Ontario Health Card, and valid picture ID, and, if available, evidence of your last education (i.e. transcript or credit counseling summary). The appointment sheet provides more specific information.
