      28.8 modem

16 bit sound card and speakers

32 meg. Random Access Memory (RAM)

100 megs of free hard disc space

Note that these are minimum requirements. Your ability to quickly and efficiently move through course modules is related to the amount of computer power you possess as well as the quality of your Internet Service Provider (ISP). Please note that certain courses require additional hardware, such as access to a scanner or digital camera. Please be sure to read the description for the course in which you wish to register.

     Internet Access

The Internet Service Provider (ISP) and the modem you have will have a big impact on your success moving about.

We do NOT provide Internet Service to our students. You may visit one of the local libraries in the area for FREE Internet access.

Our minimum requirements for connection to our courses are: 28.8 dialup. This means that it is possible to complete our courses with this type of connection. Of course, the faster and more reliable your connection, the lower your wait times and frustration rate.

Multimedia-intensive courses, such as HCNOA (which is composed of many interactive modules), is SLOW to load on a 28.8 dialup connection. It is NOT impossible, but it will require patience.

Courses that are multimedia-intensive have been identified in their course description.

     Software Requirements

Every effort has been made to ensure that course participants are not required to install or configure additional software. That said, some courses do require you to install additional software on your system.

Below you will find a table listing the standard software requirements as well as additional software requirements. Do not attempt to download or install any of the additional software until you have read the course descriptions or contacted your Tech Support or your instructor -- you may not need it.

     Standard Software Requirements

A Word Processor. We accept Corel WordPerfect and Microsoft Word.

A current Web Browser. Internet Explorer 5.5 or higher download here)or Netscape 6.2 or higher (download here) or Firefox (download here)

Accounting courses require a Spreadsheet program. We accept Quattro Pro and Excel.

     Additional Software Requirements

      Adobe Acrobat Reader (download here)

*required where e-texts are provided for courses

Additional software requirements are specific to courses. We have tried to provide alternatives and direction to free software downloads (trials) where possible. Please be sure to read the descriptions listed for each course.

CALC can assume no liability for software, hardware, peripherals or issues related to installation.

     Display

The Internet Service Provider (ISP) and the modem you have has a big impact on your success moving about.

Much of what we require for CALC courses has to do with your computer's display characteristics -- how things appear on your screen.

Minimum display requirements are width of 800, a height of 600, a colour depth of 8.
